Mixing in deterministic and random PDE: lecture notes for the Santa Barbara Kinetic summer school
نویسنده
چکیده
The perturbation Γ may be either random or deterministic. We will focus on two complementary situations. The first regime is when L is very mixing but non-dissipative, while Γ is dissipative. Their interaction leads to a dramatically increased dissipation, that can not be achieved by either of them alone. This phenomenon is known as relaxation enhancement. The second set of problems involves random perturbations Γ of a simple deterministic background operator L. Here, the long time dynamics leads to diffusive limits that are a result of the interaction of the deterministic dynamics generated by L and the random dynamics coming from Γ. We will look at several examples of such diffusive behavior, in the order of increasing difficulty. In this introductory section, we will consider two simple examples of each of these two classes of problems, just to illustrate what one may expect.

Lecture Notes on Quantum Brownian Motion
Einstein’s kinetic theory of the Brownian motion, based upon light water molecules continuously bombarding a heavy pollen, provided an explanation of diffusion from the Newtonian mechanics. Since the discovery of quantum mechanics it has been a challenge to verify the emergence of diffusion from the Schrödinger equation. The first step in this program is to verify the linear Boltzmann equation ...

متن کاملForcing Summer School Lecture Notes
These are the lecture notes for the forcing class in the 2014 UCLA Logic Summer School. They are a revision of the 2013 Summer School notes. The most substantial differences are a new proof of the forcing theorems in section 10.3 and a final section on the consistency of the failure of the axiom of choice. Both write-ups are by Sherwood Hachtman; the former is based on the author’s notes from a...
